The Different Teas That Are Natural Remedies for Constipation
Constipation is a problem that is a lot more common than most people think. Due to the busy lifestyle that people have today, coupled with the diet of fast-food and soft-drinks, the digestive system can very easily get overloaded and take a breather every once in a while. This leads to irregular bowel movements, as well as hard bowels and the pain that comes with passing them.
It is a good thing though that this is not a hard problem to solve, as there are remedies for constipation that are found within our homes, and these remedies are in the form of teas. If you are not a tea drinker, that still wouldn’t be a problem because teas are readily available in the drug or convenience store that is just around the corner.
How Does Tea Help Constipation?
Teas are known to have medicinal characteristics, but not all of them take the same exact route when used as one of the home remedies for constipation. Let us look at the different ways on how different teas can help the digestive system carry out its work.
Green Tea – there is a lot of talk regarding how green tea can promote the overall fitness of a person, but one thing that it does is promote the growth of good bacteria in the kidneys. As all should know, our digestive tract is lined with bacteria, which helps break down the food that we eat. The tea multiples and strengthens the said bacteria, which in turn allows for a more efficient digestion process and a constant bowel movement.
If you are not a constant tea drinker yet, you should start with drinking a cup or two a day until your system gets used to it. Regular tea drinkers recommend a daily dose of three to four cups of green tea each day.
Chamomile Tea – this tea has been known to treat a wide array of stomach problems. However, it does not treat all of it. The properties of chamomile tea lie more in the area of relaxing the body and preventing spasms. It treats constipation by allowing the stomach muscles as well as the colon to relax in order to allow the bowels to pass through. It also helps ease stress, which can be the cause of constipation as well.
Though three to four cups of this tea is recommended per day during treatment, there are strong cautions against its daily use as well. If too much of this tea is taken, it may lead to nausea and vomiting. Be sure to consult a pediatrician if you wish to use this method when treating a child.
Licorice Root Tea – This tea is also known to have a number of uses, though in the field of constipation, it stimulates digestion and aids the bowels in moving through the kidneys until it is flushed out of the system. It is known to have a pleasant flavor, and the recommended dosage is two to three cups per day during treatment.
Of course, it is always better to prevent a situation than treat a full blown one. This should also be the stand that we take when it comes to constipation. Make sure to have a daily exercise routine so that the blood can pump properly through the body, and maintain a well balanced diet. Drink the appropriate amount of water, which is said to be at six to eight glasses daily. Then this is to be supplemented by the drinking of teas as prescribed by the dosage.
For stronger teas that heal constipation, it would be good to speak with a herbalist for the proper dosage before taking them in, because some of them have side effects when more than the recommended dose is taken in.
